Sinister (2012)

A horror movie and its ending are like peanut butter and jelly. Because as I've grown older and my frontal lobe has been acquired, I've wondered, what is the point to all of the chaos if characters don't suffer for it? The audience sits and watches the madness unfold for 90 minutes of their life, hearts racing and palms sweating, only for birds to sing and characters to grin in the end? Maybe leaving with some trauma and scars to fade in the years, but otherwise untouched? For the more troubling horrors, beyond the campy slashers or cheap jumpscare paranormal thrillers, there is a message. You are meant to be left uncomfortable, perturbed by what you've beared witness, and irrevocably disturbed. Sinister shows you that even the worst situations can't be redeemed by the right choices. Sinister captures my attention, beyond the amazing acting performances and believable characters, because of its ending.

Bodies Bodies Bodies (2022)

My two roommates and I had talked for some time about wanting a night to bond. We were going to dress up and eat at Hooter's, come back and get comfy, and then watch a movie together. One of my roommates suggested Bodies Bodies Bodies and my other roommate crowed with glee. I made the mistake of commenting that I'd never heard of it, much less seen it. Barbie (2023)

My oh my, I had several lovely friends request my thoughts for Barbie after I saw it in theatres, dressed clad in a flamboyant pink halter top. In all honesty, I'd been more excited about the hype for the movie. My friends and I got all dressed up, ate some food, and kicked our feet excitedly in the back aisle as we whispered about how Ryan Gosling suddenly seems attractive to us, and how we were curious to see Michael Cera's performance. I didn't expect to leave the theatres teary-eyed. So strap in, because this is QUITE the word salad.

Purple Hearts (2022)

This Netflix adaptation was quiteeeeee the trip. I watched it thinking it would be a cheesy, shallow drama with political tones and a happy-go-lucky soundtrack. In these types of movies, as long as the plot isn't redundant, and the characters are interesting in their own regard, I can watch with idle mind and appreciate it for what it is. However, that isn't the case with Purple Hearts at all, as it is a try-hard film with weak attempts to act like a peacemaking between different political sides.
